QU and Dot Foods Partner To Bring Relief To Hurricane Harvey Impacted Areas
Quincy University and Dot Foods Inc. have joined forces to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey by collecting items that will be needed as the recovery process begins. From Monday, September 11th through Friday, September 15th people can drop off donations from 7 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm. A Dot Foods trailer will be located on Quincy University’s parking lot “C” (18th & Elm). QU students, faculty and staff will be present to accept the donations. Items collected will be transported by Dot Foods to Catholic Charities in Texas where they will be distributed to hurricane victims.
Items that will be collected include non-perishable foods such as peanut butter, canned goods, crackers and bottled water; along with toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste. All items should be new and unopened. In addition, local schools are being asked to collect school supplies including coloring books, crayons and notebooks. Items collected at schools can be dropped off at the designated times or schools can contact QU at 217-228-5226 to arrange for pick-up.
“This is a way we can live out the Franciscan mission of service to others and hospitality and respect for all,” said Father John Doctor, OFM, vice president for mission and ministry. “QU has a long history of helping our brothers and sisters around the world and this is a great way for our student body to be proactive in response to a natural disaster.”
